I am using high quality rust preventives from a reputed company. But my product gets rusty in humid and wet weather. Why?

Reputed company does not necessarily imply a high quality product.
If the surface of your component is pre-contaminated (especially with a polar contaminant such as soluble cutting oils, quenching oils, etc.), the rust preventive is not able to chemically bind to the metal surface, thereby resulting in low protection.
If the surface of your component is pre-rusted (early stages of nascent rusting are not easily distinguishable) such as after shot blasting, pickling, etc. the rust preventive shall not be able to stop progress of corrosion. It becomes more apparent during wet and humid weather

We are using linseed/castor/used engine oil for protection of sheets and strips/fasteners. How are rust preventives better?
Ans.:
Rust Preventives are not plain simple oils. Their technology lies in the additives that control rusting on metallic surfaces. Water is heavier than oil - a drop of water if applied on a metallic ferrous surface wetted with plain oil, this drop will sink through the oil layer and contact the metallic surface, initiating corrosion. But in the case of rust preventives, this drop of water will NOT be able to contact ferrous surface, thereby eliminating corrosion.
Besides, Linseed and castor oil will get oxidized with air and stain metallic surfaces. Used engine oil stains everything – due to its dark colour. These are only marginally effective in very favourable conditions such as dry weather.

Can we use rust preventives on Nickel chrome plated components?
Ans.:
YES! You can. In fact the purely decorative nickel chrome coatings of Nickel layer less than 10 microns are not adequately corrosion resistant. These coatings widely used on bicycle parts, hand tools, etc. are ideal for application of suitable Rust Preventives such as RUSTOFF-250/255. Their corrosion protection is enhanced manifold, thereby permitting tension-free exports.

You have recommended washing machined parts with tap water!!! Will it not spoil the entire lot through rusting?
Ans.:
No, the process has been thoroughly tested and has passed the test of time. It has been effectively implemented with 100% success at several export manufacturers and OEs for over a decade.

You have recommended adding water to your solvent/oil based rust preventive!!! Will it not spoil the entire lot of Rust preventive chemical in the application tank?
Ans.:
No, the suitable rust preventives have been designed to handle prolonged water contact. If the rust preventive cannot protect itself from water, how do you expect it to protect your products?!!

Can we wash the components with HSD (Diesel)?
Ans.:
No, only the recommended solvents and cleaning techniques can be used. Diesel (HSD) drag-in and contamination in the rust preventive tank is highly undesirable. HSD, due to its low-volatile character materially alters the designed film properties of the Rust Preventive compounds, thereby reducing their protection drastically.
